Visual Style Development

At the core of the event’s visual aesthetic is the look of the 2000s—the era of glossy magazines, music television channels, and the first digital technologies.

Nata To convey the theme of the party, I used images of sparkling disco balls, magazine clippings, and patterns that became popular during the computer graphics era of the 2000s. The postcards and certificates featured hand-drawn patterns and photobashing techniques, while the background utilized a fine dot raster.

The primary color accents are pink and deep blue. Combined with white elements and illuminated lettering, they create a unified visual style for the print materials.

The visual references drawn from cultural artifacts included 2000s pop culture, MTV, fashion magazines, and recognizable cultural icons of the era.

Merchandise from the «Slay» collaboration by Bimba Cafe

Our team successfully collaborated with Bimba Cafe: for over a month now, the collaborative beverage has been delighting guests in the Kantemirovskaya building. To help first-year students learn about our partners, we gave them a chance to win 500-ruble gift certificates to the establishment.

Event Dress Code

post

Varya To familiarize first-year students with the dress code for the welcome reception, I developed two complementary pieces: a video post and a mood board featuring outfit examples. The video is a dynamic compilation of 2000s fashion references, styled to look like Windows Media Player. The recognizable media player interface, the pink color palette, and the archival aesthetic of the footage evoke the digital culture of the noughties.

The mood board became a visual extension of the video. It gathers female and male archetypes, characteristic accessories, and recognizable artifacts of the era: digital cameras, flip phones, players, and elements of computer interfaces. The collage composition and pink accents tie the material to the overall event identity.

The combination of the two formats allowed not only to convey the mood of the upcoming party but also to offer freshmen specific guidelines for creating their own looks.

Welcome Reception Teaser Video

In developing the video teaser, we contributed to shaping the visual identity of the clip, drawing inspiration from the aesthetics of the 2000s. Special attention was paid to styling the characters, selecting appropriate looks, and crafting an atmosphere that would capture the mood of the upcoming party.

In addition to developing the visual concept, we participated in the filming of a music video as actresses and also handled the editing.

During the post-production phase, Vari’s task was to combine the footage into one vibrant film, while Nate was responsible for the dynamic flow and unified style. The edited teaser retained the characteristic early-2000s aesthetic.

The music for the teaser was Madonna’s composition, Sorry: the music’s dynamics dictated the pacing of the montage and the sequence of shots. To establish the recognizable aesthetic of the aughts, characteristic visual effects were employed: simulating footage from an old digital camcorder, featuring music album artwork associated with the era, and employing stylized transitions between scenes. The finishing touch was a unified, pink-toned color filter. Since pink is one of the key colors in the event’s brand identity, its use allowed the teaser to visually cohere with the other promotional materials and maintain identity consistency.
