Hide and Seek in the Forest Yula | PiranesiLAB
October — December 2025 Nizhny Novgorod
On October 9th, the exhibition «Hide-and-Seek in the Forest» by Alyona Pashkhina opened at the pizzeria «Yula"—a joint project with the PiranesiLAB laboratory and experimental print gallery. The exhibition transforms the «Yula» space into a venue for observation, play, and open dialogue with nature.

Wandering among trunks and branches, you might stumble upon a random hint, an encounter, or a piece of evidence. Here, you can feel completely at home, or you might remain ignorant—accept the rules of the game or insist on your own.

In the artist’s practice, the image of the forest refracts into three states. The first is the object of observation: the works document moments of light and temporal change, the cyclical nature of the environment, and the shifting of familiar rhythms. The forest becomes a portal to slowed time—from a flash of light in the thicket of trees to the sensation of slow growth and the turning of seasons.
In the second state, the forest itself monitors the arriving guest, recording the traces of human presence. Trees uprooted with their roots, which hold information about the system, transform into characters and memory keepers—invisible participants in the game.

Finally, there is a third state—the thicket as a space for mental experiments. Pushing through the undergrowth opens the possibility of moving beyond the familiar ornament of vertical trunks and beginning to seek the elusive horizon.

This search becomes a metaphor for orientation and an attempt to look beyond the visible. Where familiar outlines blur, a space of metamorphosis emerges—a place where one might encounter not answers, but new enigmas.

The exhibition unfolds like a kaleidoscope of forest manifestations—from gum bichromate printing on wood and fabric to embroidery, silkscreening, and light experiments. Each medium captures moments in its own way, transforming them into the shapes of a forest dialogue.

The exhibition features works from the following projects:
