«I Believe in Unicorns”—a film about the coming-of-age of Davina, a teen who lives between reality and her own imagination. Through her first relationships, her drive for independence, and new experiences, the heroine gradually confronts the more complex side of the adult world. The film merges everyday reality with fantastical imagery, conveying the emotionality and vulnerability of adolescent perception.

At the core of the project is the fragility of teenage perception of the world and the moment of transition from fantasy to adulthood. The unicorn becomes an icon of dream, belief, and an idealized world, while the mirrored mosaic relates to reflection, fragility, and fragmentation. The mirror shows an image of a person, but is not that person itself; individual fragments of the mosaic coalesce into a complete form, similar to the heroine’s gradually forming self-perception and understanding of the world around her.

The primary graphic elements and expressive typography are handcrafted from a mirrored mosaic. Key object states—such as the unicorn running, the gate opening, and the flower blooming—are assembled for animation, after which the intermediate movement is generated digitally through frame-by-frame restructuring of the elements. The mosaic font is reserved for the most emphatic titles, especially the film’s title, while a more neutral typography is used for the remaining credits. The visual component is integrated with the footage and sound of the original film.
