Hello, my name is Nuraiym. I work under the name nuraalish. I’m an illustrator — books, exhibitions.I specialize in: ✧ illustrated books and spreads ✧ character design and character systems ✧ environment and interior illustrationI can also:✧ storyboard and lay out a longread before a single drawing exists ✧ exhibitions built out of illustration: stands, photo zones, signageCommissions are open. I am equally glad to start a series and to join one that already exists and keep inside its rules.

How a project runs:

brief → research → the rule gets fixed and written down (palette, construction, ornament) → storyboard of the whole series → roughs → revisions → clean-up → files

The third step is the one that usually gets skipped. It is the only reason the fifteenth spread doesn’t look like it came out of another book.

THUMBELINA

Illustrated book based on the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. 19 spreads, the full text set alongside the images.
Исходный размер 3189x1890

Five worlds, one girl.Thumbelina crosses five unrelated worlds in forty pages — a flower, a pond, a wheat field, a mole’s underground parlour, the warm south. My first version gave each world its own palette. The book fell apart into a folder of separate pictures with a girl somewhere inside them.

So I locked five colours for the whole book. Day and night are not different colours here — they are different amounts of the same five.

Исходный размер 1920x1080

Thumbelina is the only character allowed to carry all five at once. Wherever she is on the spread — a petal, a leaf, a bird’s back — your eye finds her first, without a single arrow or spotlight.

Half the spreads in a book like this are mostly type, and that is where illustrated series usually fall apart. The text pages sit on the lightest tone of the same palette, with one illustrated element bleeding across the gutter.

TEREMOK

Illustration and characters for a children’s exhibition based on the Russian folk tale, including a physical photo zone.
Исходный размер 4961x3508

Khokhloma fills everything it touches.

This one is not a book. It is a wall you see from three metres away and an object a child stands next to.Ornament is the obvious register for a Russian folk tale, and it is a trap. Enlarged to exhibition scale it turns into noise: from three metres you see pattern, not a bear. Up close the detail is lovely — but by then the visitor has walked past.

Исходный размер 2400x1697

My rule: ornament only on what is made by hand — the carved house, the woven clothes, the cultivated ground. Fur, leaves and sky stay flat and clean.

From three metres you read the animal instantly; up close the pattern is waiting for you. Six characters on one body construction, told apart by silhouette and by how dense the ornament on their clothes is — never by colour, because colour is the one thing a lit exhibition room changes.

Thanks for watching!

I am still learning, and I would be glad if anyone wants to collaborate with me and make something together!
